Daniel says: For writing what was obviously intensely personal and raw.
Silver James | @SilverJames_
Daniel says: For the electric and provocative interaction between her characters. This little story packed a ton of color and energy into a short space.
Patty Knowles | @pattydump1
Daniel says: A hilarious little piece that made me smile. Game over!
Mileva Anastasiadou | @happymil_
Daniel says: For the poetic and thought-provoking work that really drew me in. I kept scrolling back to it to read it again, getting a little more out of it each time. Beautifully done.
He came here to teach. It was too late when he introduced himself; I was already in love.
I could drop the course, I told him. But I didn’t. Nor did he stop loving me. We came from different parts of the same flawed world. Opposites attract. Until they collide. From the explosion comes fire. From fire comes warmth. That’s dialectical thinking, he said. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis.
He came here to teach. He taught survival. A different kind of survival than what was taught in reality shows. Or in Hunger Games. Or even at university. There is a jungle out there, he said. United we stand, he claimed, yet all students doubted him. They wanted in, while I wanted out. They wanted the house, the car, the job, their fair share of the dream they’d been taught to dream. Divided we fall, yelled the professor of collective survival. All students failed the course but me.
He came here to teach, but nobody listened. At least we found each other. Love is the alternative to this flawed world, he said. Love is the antidote to despair.
United we stand, even if it’s just the two of us.
Against a flawed world.
