Danielle says: Loved the final lines to his piece. They make such a true statement, albeit a troubling one. I had a hard time choosing between this piece and Miranda's for winner.
Keturah Lamb | @KeturahAbigail
Danielle says: I loved how the piece read. Almost poetic in a way, placing you inside the event and inside the MC's head. It gets all your hopes up and then drops them with cold nerves in the final words.
Katheryn J. Avila | @katheryn_avila
Danielle says: Loved the backstory irony between her characters of once threatening the life she's now trying to save. The tale left me wondering what happened; and what's in that syringe? In such desperate times, we do such desperate things from fear, don't we?
Miranda Kate | @Purplequeennl
Danielle says: Loved the dark undertone to her tale, especially the ending. I'm a sucker for all things dark and twisted. It makes me want to know what the experiments were about and how they're pulling them off without detection.
“We can’t have!” Maurice rushed over to the body to check the pulse. “It’s faint, we can try.” He straddled the body to start compressions.
“Don’t bother, it’s too late.”
“It can’t be too late.” Maurice started to press on her chest.
“Maurice, honestly, don’t waste your time, we’ve got another.”
“But it’s a waste. We were half way through the experiment. We’ll have to start all over again.”
“But I don’t think you’ll get her back enough to make it worthwhile. The results won’t be conclusive.” Randall ticked boxes on his clipboard.
Maurice climbed off the table. “It took an age to get her to the edge, too.”
“I think we pushed too far.”
“She seemed to be resisting well.”
“You can never tell which ones are going to handle it and which aren’t, that’s the beauty of it. Go fetch another one.”
“Me? I did it last time.”
Randall rolled his eyes and put the clipboard down. He put on the gloves. “Okay, but you better be ready. I’m not good at controlling them when they start kicking and screaming.”
“I told you we should sedate them first.”
“No, it’ll mess up the data, I need them alert. I need them to be conscious of what’s about to happen.”
Maurice raised his eyebrows. “More like you want them to be. You’re a sick bastard, Randall.”
Randall winked at Maurice as he left the room. “It takes one to know one.”
Congratulations Winner Miranda, and Honorable Mentions Mark, Keturah, and Katheryn! Don't forget to claim your badges and display them with pride. You certainly earned it!
