Miranda says: Nice little werewolf tale. Left on a perfect cliff hanger for the reader to finish in their mind.
Keturah Lamb | @KeturahAbigail
Miranda says: I liked this piece as it was so different and made you think. I read it several times as I felt it had a lot to say about life.
Angora Shade | @AngoraShade
Miranda says: Nice concise piece imagining what it would be like to be in Witness Protection, with the end line giving us a taste of what had put the MC there.
Miranda says: This piece just flowed perfectly, the scene was clearly set, and the story unraveled in the dialogue. Clean and concise. Good little tale.
I shook out my towel and used it to wipe my face and rub my hair.
“Pretty rough out there, huh?”
I nodded at him. “Gnarly.”
He looked like a perfect hitman. Average height, average build. Plain face, regular haircut. Khaki pants, right hand shoved in a blue windbreaker. Vanilla.
I hated him immediately.
“So, what's it up to?” I asked.
“What's what up to?”
“C'mon. We're both professionals. What's it up to?”
He considered me for a second. “One point two.”
“One point two? That high? Nice.”
“You’ve got him worried.”
“He oughtta be, the fat prick.”
I peeled my wetsuit down to my waist and toweled off my body.
“What's the proof? A million two, there's gotta be proof, right?”
“More than pictures?”
“Fingers? A hand?”
“Head,” he mumbled.
I laughed. “My HEAD? He wants you to bring back my head?”
He nodded. “That's what he said.”
I covered the distance between us in two big steps. I controlled his gun hand with my left and buried the polymer knife I carried in my wetsuit into his neck with my right. I rode him to the ground and watched his life spurt out on the cold sand. It was over in seconds.
“Let him worry.”
