“Let me the hell go!”
“I see nothing has changed, Agent Marquis.”
Sade froze despite that sultry voice in her ear igniting every cell in her body. Bloody fucking dragon. “What the hell are you doing here, Nikos?”
“The royal family wishes to celebrate Halloween here in New Orleans.”
She’d stopped struggling but the damned lizard didn’t put her down. They had a history, one she didn’t want repeated with the Drakon of the Kholikikos Clan of dragons. “Then why aren’t you at the Monteleone babysitting them?”
“Because a little fairy told me that my favorite FBI agent was causing a scene in Jackson Square. I had to see for myself.”
“Let me go, Nikos.”
“Do I hear an unspoken ‘or else’?”
“I’m in the mood to kick some dragon butt so yeah, I’ll say it out loud. Or else.”
He released her, but she was ready. They’d played this game before. She whirled to face him, but he backed up a step, arms out.
“You do know it is unwise to piss off the gargoyles, yes?”
“Just so long as they know they shouldn’t piss me off either.”
Yes, nothing ever changed with her, Nikos thought. And smiled.
