P.T. says: I liked the uniqueness of the setting and the touches of subtle humor.  And I especially liked the twist at the end.

P.T. says: The description was a little too accurate (says the person who was rapidly melting while reading).  I could feel the heat and the ice and see the humidity in the air, and feel the frustration in the narrator’s voice.  And I love the way the way we were left hanging with the phone call.  Was it the missing husband or was it EMS?

Sweat trickled down my back in a single drop. I dragged a calloused hand over my forehead, flicking away the accumulated moisture. Humidity hung in the air, thick as fog, obscuring an otherwise bright, blue sky. July had roared in with hundred degree temperatures and the humidity to match.

I shivered as I chugged ice cold water, then dragged the sweating bottle over the back of my neck. The pavement reflected the sun straight into my already burnt face. I sighed, the bottle crumpling in my hand.

"Should we continue our search?"

Pastor Nichols smooth tenor voice brought my attention from the heat. Stomping the bottle under foot, I shook my head.

"No. I'm tired and hot and if he wants to kill himself out here, let him."

I turned and walked down the sidewalk, wishing we'd parked closer. The rough part of Omaha was scary at night, but it didn't make me comfortable during the day, either. A police car screamed past on the intersecting block, an ambulance seconds behind it. I'd been on ambulance runs in this part of town many times; it was probably an overdose.

"I'll spring for dinner," Pastor said. He knew better than to argue. He'd helped me search for my drug addicted husband before.

"Thanks."

Four blocks later, I leaned back in my truck as heat radiated off me. My phone rang as I put the truck into gear. Glancing down, I swallowed. With a nervous hand, I swiped my phone open.

Congratulations Two Time Winner Kel, and Barbe! Don't forget to claim your badges and display them with pride. You certainly earned it!

Pass on the great news on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, shiny mirrors, Morse Code, and signal flags. Check out all the original tales HERE. Thanks for stopping by and happy reading! :)

Word of Advice
If you want to be a writer, don't think about writing or talk about writing; WRITE. And never give up on the stories.
