Siobhan says: I loved the twist at the end. Definitely life and death. :)
Katheryn J. Avila | @Katheryn_avila
Siobhan says: I loved the last line and how it impacts the characters. Family dinner with vampires? Uh can I claim to have the swine flu? Great tale.
Mark Ethridge | @LurchMunster
Siobhan says: I loved how smart the 6 year old was and his grasp of sarcasm even then. Sometimes I think the kids teach us.
Hennessee Andrews | @HennesseeAndrew
Siobhan says: What I liked most about this tale was the overall flavor of being right there without a lot of extraneous detail. And she ended the story with just enough of a hook to make me ask, "Wait, it was arson? Who dun it?!" Fun tale. Want to know more.
Helpless to do anything more than just watch at this point, Ransom wiped the sweat and soot from his brow. He exhaled a breath and blinked his burning eyes. At least the horses were safe and free from harm, thanks to the quick action of his neighbors. The structure could be replaced, but the set back two weeks before guests would be arriving to the ranch worried him.
Beside him, Lance stood in pajama pants without a shirt. His arms were crossed over his chest, eyes directed forward as if mesmerized by the blaze. It wasn’t until one of the firemen approached that Ransom understood what had caught Lance’s attention.
“Mr. Knight,” the fireman directed his attention to Ransom while pulling away his blackened visor. “The fire marshal will be here in the morning to investigate. After he completes his work, it will be necessary for safety to get the barn torn down.”
“Wait. The fire marshal is coming? Why?”
“Sir, a blaze that intense had to be created with an accelerant,” the fireman said as he glanced over his shoulder.
Ransom’s stomach became queasy. “You don’t believe this could have been an accident?”
With remorse, the fireman stared back at Ransom. “No.”
Congratulations Winner Hennessee, Anne, Katheryn, and Mark! Don't forget to claim your badges and display them with pride. You certainly earned it!
