Cara says: Playing games inside the bones of a busted down church… Summoning demons to dish out punishment… This is a wicked revenge concept that I would love to see fleshed out.

Cara says: Okay, so I love the playfulness of both Tag’s name and the man himself. I missed what led into this, but there’s enough here to get me smiling and wanting more.

Cara says: The lush descriptions give this snippet an overall sensuality that’s capped by a little—ahem—jungle love. This glimpse of Tarzan and his Jane, and their “civilized” life is playful and evocative. And I so love Jane’s “you big ape” zinger at the end.

From the conservatory windows, he watched the ocean breeze flirt with fuchsia petals and peacock feathers. Voices echoed in the hall, announcing the arrival of Clayton Conservation corporate lawyers, but a tantalizing perfume held his attention and he pushed open the French doors.
A single knock on the mahogany interior door preceded the entry of his assistant and the attorneys. “Shall I have coffee brought in now, Viscount?”
“Yes,” he said, without turning to greet the group. “And perhaps some sandwiches and newspapers. Enough to occupy our guests while they wait.”
The well-dressed young man hurried forward. “Wait on what? We’ve had this meeting scheduled and prepped for weeks.”
He stepped out onto the slate patio, scenting the air. The fragrance came from the south now, warm and musky. “Begin the meeting. I’ll be back in time for the summary.”
Heading into the jungle that edged the estate, his heart rattled the cage of his chest but his footsteps remained measured. Deep in a stand of cedars, a black satin ribbon fluttered in the dappled sunlight.
As he reached for it, a playful voice sang out. “Tag, you’re it!”
Stripping out of his clothes, he gave chase to the feminine shadow racing ahead of him, keeping on her heels until they crashed, together, into a soft bed of fern leaves. “Another business meeting ruined on your account, sweet Lady Jane.”
Naked and grinning, she rolled on top of him. “Stop grumbling and show a little appreciation, you big ape.”
