Deelylah says: Okay. You had me at VAMPIRE COURT. I may be in paranormal withdrawal right now.

Deelylah says: Rewind 19 years. Yup. I was that dad, pretty much. I like connecting with a text in a way others might now.

He rolls the snitched fig between his palms and then pulls out a pocket knife. In the small space, away from the party crowd, her instinct is to grab the blade. Stab him. Run. He’s so soft-spoken. She strains to hear him, but takes what’s offered and nibbles the corner. The bitter taste makes her wince and his lips turn up a little – a semblance of a smile, first of its kind.
“Why would anyone think to eat this?” Her voice sounds like another person. She takes another, larger bite. August bursts into the back. They snap away from each other.
“We don’t have time to play!” August shoves an empty tray against his chest, pushing him towards the door.
“Why aren’t you changed?” He hisses, snatching her arm, yanking her away.
