Mary says: I like the cycle of grief and redemption this story touches on, and the fact that sometimes the comfort people give is no comfort at all, but just being there is sometimes enough.
David Shakes | @TheShakes72
Mary says: A very creepy look into the progression of a serial killer, and interestingly the effect they have on the people around them.
Kate | @tsk_show
Mary says: The writer cleverly keeps the violence and horror off screen, ala Hitchock, leaving it to the reader to supply their own images, and allowing the author to say so much in so few words.
Rebecca Hart | @RebelHart69
Mary says: I like at how this hints at a much bigger story with lines that allude to parts of conversation without actually saying what was said, like the line “It’s not water under anything…” It holds the promise of more to come.
He’d helped save her life, and this is how she repaid the kindness. Emitting a sigh, she settled down on the grass across from him. Ana drew her knees up and wrapped her arms around them. It took all her courage to lift her eyes to meet his.
Ric studied her face a moment before he spoke. "I have avoided town entirely because my demeanor is not one that should be shared with people. I have killed ettins until I could not draw my bow back anymore, and I have not seen the inside of my house more than twice since I left you at the infirmary."
For a second, she’d thought she’d stopped breathing. Her ears buzzed, and her pulse quickened. He’d done that? For her? She searched his face, her brow drawn. But why? “I appreciate what you did for me, you and Ashlinn. If it weren’t for the two of you…” She couldn’t finish the thought. “Thank you.”
“They deserved to die, but I’m worried about you, Ana. You’re set on going after the Crone, and I can tell you’re not a ‘let it go’ sort of girl. I’ve done my best to convince myself it isn’t my problem, my worry, but damnit all I've been doing is thinking about you."
