I'm offering snippets of IN DEATH'S SHADOW, Book 3 in the Rifts series and it will be out March 7th! Quinn Tarlen is a master assassin and the dryads are giving him the option to cross their forest if he works with a princess to find a missing magical artifact. Unfortunately, he knows the princess, or at least her family, and he'd rather face the mob than work with her. The Keeper of the dryads speaks first.
“Why do you think she killed your brother?”
“Because he was the last one she and her sisters drugged to escape her father’s castle. And her father killed him when they didn’t come home.” He swung his fury on the princess. “Do you even remember Sean, princess? A man searching for his fortune only to fall prey to your machinations.”
She shook her head. “You think I drugged your brother? I never touched the tea served to him.”
“But you went along with it.” He bit back his snarl and turned to the Keeper. “My brother would be alive if she and her sisters had returned.” Quinn raised his chin and crossed his arms over his chest. “I’ll take my leave of you as soon as I’m able.”
“I didn’t kill your brother. I have no idea who you are.” The wench mirrored his stance, her feminine curves barely hidden by the ragged clothes distracting him. Yet she still managed to look regal.
“Nevertheless, your actions caused his death.” His gaze flickered shamelessly over her body. “You’re without honor and therefore, not worthy of my company.”
“Without honor.” The princess snorted and raised an eyebrow. “This coming from a man who sneaks up behind people and slits their throats? You have no room to talk.”
“I didn’t ask for your input or opinions, princess.” Quinn returned his gaze to the dryad Keeper’s face. “As I said, Keeper. I’ll take my chances with the mob.”
We all need a second chance. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb to THE IN DEATH'S SHADOW:
After three hundred years, Princess Maia is done with dryads.
Imprisoned by the wood folk for a crime she didn’t commit, Princess Maiasora Silvercloak wants her life back. If she finds the Key to the Twelve Realms and returns it to the dryads by the summer solstice, she’s free. Too bad she has no clue where to look. And the dryads’ solution might kill her.
Master Assassin Quinn Tarlen wants safe passage across the dryads’ forest after his last contract put him in the crossfire. The dryads offer him a deal: Escort a princess on her quest to find a magical artifact and he’ll be released. One catch: she’s the daughter of the king who killed his brother.
Spell-bound together, they must scour the world for the pieces of this artifact without getting killed or killing each other. Falling in love isn’t part of the plan as they race against time to secure the Key before the deadline. But nothing’s ever simple when magic is involved and death isn’t the worst outcome if they fail to find the Key.
