In this snippet, Moira talking to Aiden about the issues he's having being around a lot of people. She's trying to get the full reasons he's back in Cloudburst out of him. He's the first one to speak.
“I hadn’t planned to stay, it’s true. There are a lot of old memories for me in this town, but not necessarily good ones.” He rubbed the back of his neck as she shot him a triumphant look. “That’s part of the reason I stayed away for so long. But I need you, Moira.”
She snorted. “You need me?”
“Yeah, more than I realized. You’re my Lady Cloudburst, and you’re established here with a business and family. I’ll just have to find my place here with you.”
“Whoa back there, Hoss.” She held up both hands and he sat back in his chair. “We’re just working on friendship last I checked. You don’t have to stay. I’m not requiring it, especially if you don’t want to be here.”
He shook his head. “You don’t understand. I need to be here, Moira. I came back because I acknowledged it. I’m not going anywhere.”
“But I don’t want you here if you hate it. That’s the quickest way to resentment, and I’ve had enough of that.” She retreated behind the desk, to give them both perspective, and him some safety. Her temper threatened to boil over with violence. “And what about my needs? What if I don’t need you?”
It wasn’t true, not really, but so far Aiden’s visit had been all about Aiden. He’d returned because he needed her, on his time, when he was ready. Not once had he asked her what she needed or wanted. Beyond my sexual kinks. Why is it always about sex for men?
“What?” His eyes widened as his eyebrows rose.
“Look, Aiden, I appreciate the realization of your needs and your interest in me now that I’m old enough for you, but I’m not convinced you really want to be here.” She held up a hand to stop him from interrupting. “I promised friendship, but if you’re hoping I’ll fall down on my knees and thank my lucky stars you’ve deigned to notice me now, you need to rethink things. I don’t need a man in my life to be happy.”
She's a practical woman and she doesn't want to sit on a pedestal. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, Kathy Griffith Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel.
