I'm sure a lot of you know about #CockyGate and the audacity of a lazy author (yes, she thinks trademarking = branding) trying to trademark a common word. In response, a lot of authors have gotten together to fight the stupidity. There are two anthologies out now to do just that where the proceeds go to helping authors stand up to online bullies threatening their livelihoods based on one word. The first anthology is COCKTALES by the Cocky Collective
The second anthology is THE COCKY COCKERS, A Cocky Author Production. This anthology was inspired by the need to keep common words free for all people to use. And the best part? The proceeds from this anthology will first be used to defray any legal costs associated with its publication, and secondarily donated to the Romance Writers of America's Perseverance Fund. It's currently on pre-order and will be out June 25th 2018.
These are all short stories (~5K words) and they all have a Cocker Spaniel in them. Mine is called THE COCKY CANINE CAPER, and Aaron is way more canine than the dog. Authors note: "Moon Singer" is what my werewolves call themselves.
“What. Is. That?”
Aaron stood at the front door, his arms full of grocery bags, as he stared at the small brown and white intruder.
“This is Sandy.” Tyler grinned at him as he stroked the wiggling Cocker Spaniel beside him.
“What is ‘Sandy’ doing here?” The words came out through clenched teeth.
“We’re dog sitting for my friend, Adele. She’s going to be gone for a few days and needed someone to look out for Sandy.”
Sweet Goddess, no. “No, no, this isn’t gonna work.” Aaron stepped inside, keeping a wary eye on the small dog.
“Why not?” Tyler raised his eyebrows. “Sandy’s sweet and housetrained.”
Yeah, well, I’m not. Aaron swallowed hard. “Look, I’m allergic to dogs.”
“Bullshit. I’ve seen you around a lot of dogs, and you’re fine.” Tyler shook his head as he ruffled Sandy’s fur.
I’m fine, but the dogs freak out. Aaron shook his head. Moon Singers and dogs rarely got along well.
Oh yeah. Moon Singers just might kill an intruder. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, Kathy Griffith Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel.
Here's the blurb for THE COCKY COCKERS Anthology:
What do you get when you cross cocky heroes and heroines with Cocker Spaniels? Why, Cocky Cockers, of course.
All the stories in this anthology feature a Cocker Spaniel and a happily-ever-after (or happy-for-now) ending. How they get there? Well, that's all the fun!
Warning: The stories in this anthology run the gamut from G to NC-17 ratings and include examples of nearly every subgenre--including contemporary, historical, paranormal, and steampunk--as well as m/f, m/m, and f/f pairings.
Proceeds from this anthology will first be used to defray and legal costs associated with its publication, and secondarily donated to the Romance Writers of America's Perseverance Fund.
