You might have noticed that KindleWorlds by Amazon has shut down and the authors have received the rights back to their books. Everyone is doing something different with the books and I chose to edit a bit and re-release. DARWIN'S EVOLUTION is now available wide (rather than just on Amazon US). This is not a new story so much as a changing the publisher and the cover. If you've already read it, drop by and leave a review. If not, grab a copy of my spin-off from the Bad Boys of Beta Squad series.
In this snippet, we start in Cyrus "Darwin" Finch's POV now that he's in Flagstaff and settling in to his hotel.
He scanned the room, making note of the escape routes, including the window. There wasn’t a fire escape, but two Ponderosa pines stood outside and he could easily use their sturdy branches as a ladder.
He sighed and shook his head. I’m supposed to be on vacation. Except he didn’t know what to do with himself. It’d been too long since he took time off to do anything “fun.” He tried to ignore the little voice suggesting he’d have more fun at home, working on cases brought to the company, but he’d promised Maddy he’d try to relax.
Maybe he’d rent a car and drive out to Sunset Crater or the Wapatki Ruins. He could take a little more time and visit Walnut Canyon or Meteor Crater. Or he could drive to Sedona and visit the artsy fartsy side of Arizona.
The idea of renting a car had merit. It would be good to be mobile.
Hell, the only reason you want to rent a car is because you hope to see Sadie Hawkins again.
He shook his head and grinned. Busted. Something about Sadie made him feel protective and protected at the same time. She carried herself with such confidence, he suspected she could hold her own in ass-kicking territory. But she also had the shiny curiosity of someone starting something new, and it was almost more attractive than her full tits and curving ass. The woman was unintentionally hot and Cyrus just wanted to spend more time with her.
Hell, I already slept with her. He barked a laugh as he called for a cab to take him to the airport.
It's always good to be proactive. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, Kathy Griffith Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel.
Here's the blurb for DARWIN'S EVOLUTION:
Sometimes retirement is a helluva lot of work…
Retired Marine Master Sergeant Sadie Hawkins is ready for a quiet life with her mother in northern Arizona. No more recon, no more shots fired. Hell, she might even give romance a try if she finds the right guy. Like the one asleep on her shoulder on the train.
Cyrus “Darwin” Finch retired from the Navy SEALs and now runs his own security, surveillance, and rescue company employing retired members of the four branches of the U.S. military. He’s on “forced” vacation and is supposed to be relaxing, dammit. Until he meets Sadie.
When they discover a foreign enemy setting up a domestic retreat in Sadie’s backyard, romance and vacations take a backseat. There are no calm seas or clear skies with bullets flying, and no time for a Happy Ever After. But SEALs never give up and marines never surrender.
