Part of that is offering snippets from CHRISTMAS I.C.E. MAGIC, a novella associated with the Cloudburst, Colorado series. It's a paranormal holiday romance and it's re-release is available now. Woohoo! Zach Snow has rescued Lily, but he has to get her to talk. She doesn't want to share, but she wants to know what he is.
“So what are you?”
“Let’s start with right now I’m someone who cares that you survive the night. Why were you out on the slopes in a blizzard trying to kill yourself?”
“You never said I had to answer any questions.” Lily sipped her soup and ignored her stomach’s rejoicing.
“You’re right, but I figured if we’re being chatty, there can be some quid pro quo.” Zach tossed her a saucy grin. “So let’s trade secrets. Why were you trying to kill yourself on Christmas?”
Stated like that it seemed ludicrous, especially wrapped in her warm sleeping bag on a bed in a…Lily frowned. Where were they again?
“Where are we? You said your place, but it doesn’t look like any house I’ve ever seen.”
“Lily.” The reprimand made her grimace. “Why did you want to die?”
She looked away and sipped her soup to buy some time. Because the magic was all gone. Except a few minutes ago she’d seen something more magical than anything in her previous thirty-eight years of life.
“I couldn’t do it anymore.”
“Couldn’t do what?”
“Live without…” She glanced at him, but he only looked normal and curious. No crystalline hair or blue shadows sculpting his face. “The magic.”
“Magic? What magic are you talking about?” Did he look a little alarmed?
She shook her head. “I answered a question. Your turn. What happened back there when you shook my hand?”
He raised his eyebrows. “Happened? I shook your hand.”
Oh ho, is he hiding something from her? ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb:
For Lily Sinclair, Christmas means sorrow and loss since the death of her twin brother. When her friends want to celebrate at the Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier, Lily figures she’ll take the chance to see her brother one more time before ending her life.
As an Ice Demon, Zachary Snow is used to rescuing people in winter, but he’d never rescued anyone like Lily. She fights his efforts, claiming the magic has left the world and she has no more adventures left. But to Zach, she embodies everything magical and more.
Zach must convince Lily the magic she wants is in life itself.
This title was previously published in the Happy Holidays from the Crescent Moon Lodge anthology. It has been re-edited.
