In this snippet, Aiden Westmorland is trying to explain to Moira Callahan why he disappeared for so long and why she should let him back into her life. It's still not going well.
"Moira." Aiden's voice cracked like a whip and she froze, her heartbeat ratcheting up from sorrow to excitement. How the heck could he make her stop with just her name?
His boots crunched in the snow behind her, each step sending a shiver of delight up her spine. I haven't seen him in two decades and he still makes me sweat. What is wrong with me?
Aiden came around and stopped in front of her, reaching out to lift her chin until her gaze met his. Bright blue irises full of churning emotion hit her and stole her breath. He tilted his head and rubbed one thumb over her lower lip, sending cream flooding her panties. Something's wrong with me.
"I can't change the past, I can only start from now, and right now, I'm here. I'm not going anywhere." His lips quirked into a half smile. "While I did come back to see my mom, my main motivation was to see you. I want you, and I'm not going anywhere without you. You're my Lady Cloudburst. Give me the chance to show you I'm serious."
She snorted. "Those are pretty words, Aiden. I guess I'd believe them more if you'd made an effort sooner." She shook her head. "I grew up and I stopped believing liars and players when I was in my twenties. I'm too old for that shit."
Anger seared her from his gaze, his cheeks flushing. "You think I'm a player?"
She raised an eyebrow, not impressed with his fit of temper. "Why else would you come back here after years away without a word and say, 'Hey babe. Missed ya. Let's get together now that I'm at loose ends and my most recent lover kicked me to the curb.' That's it, isn't it? Life got too hard so you came back here to your hometown and thought the girl you'd left behind would just take you in? Fuck you. I'm not that desperate."
His rejoinder didn't do it. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, J.D. Walker, Addison Albright, and Iris Blobel.
