In this snippet, Drake has come to Aliandra's home to apologize for his rude behavior at the library with flowers. She invites him in for dinner and things start to heat up, and I don't mean on the stove.
Aliandra met Drake's gaze and he stared back at her with hot desire filling his face. His jaw clenched and she wanted to kiss it until it relaxed. She’d be happy just resting against his chest, inhaling his delicious scent. With my hands thrust down his shorts.
Aliandra came back to herself standing nearly nose to nose with him, her hands braced on his arms. When did I move here? She cleared her throat and stepped back.
“I’m sorry, Mr. MacGregor. I seem to be having trouble focusing on propriety.”
“It’s all right, Doctor. I, uh, am having a similar difficulty.” He stared down at her with intensity burning beneath his irises and heat bloomed across her cheeks. “Given our previous associations, though, perhaps you’d do me the honor of calling me Drake.”
A visible shiver rocked his body and she wanted to wrap her own body around him to provide comfort. The scents of warmed leather and spicy chocolate hit her nose and she inhaled deeply as she closed her eyes. His breathing increased along with the heat of his body as his hands cupped her face.
Before she could say a word, his lips sealed on hers.
Boy, it's a good thing they haven't had wine yet. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Jeff Tsuruoka, Gem Sivad, Goran Zidar, Veronica Scott, and Sarah Wesson. Here's the blurb for Order of the Dragon:
Drake MacGregor always adhered to the adage ‘let sleeping dragons lie’, until he slept with one.
In an effort to make up for his past as Vlad the Impaler, Drake has been living a small, quiet life in Three Lakes. As the town’s archivist, his knowledge of history and his place in it weigh on him. Drake has one desire—to rectify the atrocities committed in the name of his knightly order. Too bad he can’t keep his hands, or his fangs, off the local doctor, especially when he discovers she’s an actual dragon.
Aliandra Cantora del Viento is old enough and wise enough to ignore her attraction to the handsome historian, especially when her heart suggests he might be something more than he appears. Drake stokes her fires and curls her tail, and after a hot night in her clinic, the game is on. But he avoids her and nothing she tries breaks through his reserve, despite his obvious interest. He turns her on then apologizes for it, repeatedly. Not exactly the kind of relationship she’d hoped for yet she can’t walk away.
When a mysterious researcher arrives with his son, Drake becomes more edgy and irritable, and Aliandra must decide if she’s willing to fight for him. Especially when he might be her True Mate.
