I'm offering snippets of IN DEATH'S SHADOW, Book 3 in the Rifts series. Quinn and Maia have entered the Windbreak Keep and Maia is in the bath alone. At least, Quinn thinks she's alone.
Quinn’s head came up at the first sound from the bathing room and he rose from the plush chair where he’d been drinking some warm tea. It sounded like Maia had moaned and he worried she’d been hurt on the hike up to the keep. He almost beat on the door when he heard the words, “Kiss me, Quinn.”
What the hell?
He froze with his fist raised as the words sank into his awareness. Did she just say kiss me? He held his breath and listened hard. What was happening on the other side of the door?
Moans echoed and his cock perked up. Damn, it sounds like she’s having sex. But princesses were necessarily virgins, right? He frowned as he searched his memories. Hadn’t Sean said he’d met a family of twelve virgin girls? Maia’s definitely not a girl.
More moans jerked him out of his memories and he pressed his back against the wall beside the door to the bathing room. Every sound she made encouraged his fantasies and his cock, and soon he’d undone the front of his trousers. Goddess, she’s making me hard. His shaft strained against his fly and his balls tightened to the point of pain. He grasped his cock and stroked it, closing his eyes as she moaned again.
“Touch me slow and soft, Quinn.”
Sweet Goddess, she’s gonna kill me.
That definitely has gotten his attention. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb to THE IN DEATH'S SHADOW:
After three hundred years, Princess Maia is done with dryads.
Imprisoned by the wood folk for a crime she didn’t commit, Princess Maiasora Silvercloak wants her life back. If she finds the Key to the Twelve Realms and returns it to the dryads by the summer solstice, she’s free. Too bad she has no clue where to look. And the dryads’ solution might kill her.
Master Assassin Quinn Tarlen wants safe passage across the dryads’ forest after his last contract put him in the crossfire. The dryads offer him a deal: Escort a princess on her quest to find a magical artifact and he’ll be released. One catch: she’s the daughter of the king who killed his brother.
Spell-bound together, they must scour the world for the pieces of this artifact without getting killed or killing each other. Falling in love isn’t part of the plan as they race against time to secure the Key before the deadline. But nothing’s ever simple when magic is involved and death isn’t the worst outcome if they fail to find the Key.
