Snippet Sunday - Good Meal and Sex

Welcome to the Weird, the Wild, & the Wicked for Snippet Sunday! Happy spring time weekend. We finally have warmer weather and I'm enjoying it.

Back in 2012 I released HER DEVOTED VAMPIRE, my first paranormal romance. I recently received my rights back to it and I'm re-vamping (lol) so I can re-release it this year. I thought I'd give you a few snippets I've been working on in anticipation of it's re-release.

So the snippet: Bridget gets mugged and stabbed on the streets of Boston, so Fredrick brings her to his home in Gloucester to take care of her, giving into his possessive streak. However, his staff isn't nearly as thrilled with her appearance as Fredrick is, at least his PA isn't.

“Where did you find her? She smells wonderful.” Matt pulled the jacket away from her body and raised it to his nose. “Sweet.”

“Boston.” Fredrick shoved the spike of possessiveness away.

Matt raised his eyebrows, and the women gaped, startled.

“You went to Boston tonight?” Szilvia asked. “Whatever for?”

Fredrick gritted his teeth against his PA’s disdain and shifted around the table to remove the delicious woman’s boots. Why is this such a big deal?

“You had to go to Boston to get a good meal and sex. You couldn’t simply find it here in Gloucester?”
“They say some of the best seafood is in Boston.” Cynthia’s lips curled with amusement as she prepared the antiseptic and needles. “But she doesn’t smell like sex.”

“I didn’t have sex with her, we had coffee.” Fredrick dropped the first boot on the floor and moved to the next one.

“Coffee.” Szilvia’s voice had the humidity of the Gobi desert. “You went all the way to Boston to have coffee with some random woman?”

“No, I went all the way to Boston to check on Snickerdoodles, and ended up having coffee with this woman.”

Szilvia leveled him with an icy stare. “I’m not helping you with a She-Meal.”

A She-Meal is she? :) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Jeff Tsuruoka, Veronica Scott, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb for HER DEVOTED VAMPIRE (with the new cover!):

How far would you go to get away?

Bridget Shanahan’s life seems bleak and boring until she gets mugged and abducted from her favorite coffee shop by the sexiest man she’s ever met. Unfortunately, he’s a lunatic who believes he’s some kind of vampire savior surrounded by a security force of werewolves. Worse, he’s determined to keep her.

Fredrick MacGregor has been having visions of this woman in danger for the last six months. A woman he must protect at all costs. However, when he brings her home, she doesn’t believe in vampires or Avatars, and she definitely doesn’t want to stay. But the sense of danger persists and he’ll do anything to keep her safe, even if it costs his own life to preserve hers.

This title should be re-released at the end of April 2016.

At least she wasn't referred to as a Happy Meal... ;-)

Interesting snippet. Definitely enjoy the back-and-forth dialogue aspect.

Thank goodness for small favors, eh, T.M.? :D Thanks very much for commenting.

I think I like these vampires. She-meal? That cracked me up. Great snippet!

Yeah, Szilvia is sarcastic. I'm pretty sure she refers to human men as He-Meals. ;) Thanks for commenting, Emmy.

No idea what it means, but i love Snickerdoodles. Great snippet, too, Siobhan. I liked the flow of the dialogue.

Snickerdoodles is the name of the coffee shop where Fredrick met Bridget. Thanks for commenting, Iris. :)

She-Meal indeed! LOL! This scene is heating up nicely, in more ways than one. Great snippet!

Siobhan

Thank you, Elizabeth. Yeah, Fredrick's already hot-to-trot for Bridget. :)

I love that description of Szilvia's voice having the humidity of the Gobi desert. Fun snippet, though not so much fun for the She-Meal at this point!

Siobhan

Hehehe yeah, she's got the dryness down pat. Thanks for commenting, Rachel.

This story sounds fun!

Thanks, Aurora. :)

I like these vampires, but I don't think Bridget will be happy (or grateful) when she wakes up. Looking forward to seeing her reaction to them!

Siobhan

Hehehe yeah, this is an understatement. Thanks for stopping by, Joyce. :)

He's conflicted and his friends jealous (I think). Sounds like he's got a rocky road ahead of him.

Siobhan

Szilvia is definitely jealous. His other staff members look at her as a new toy - werewolves tend to do that. :D Thanks for commenting, Gem.

I'm intrigued. Loved the banter between these two. Speaks of knowing each other for a long time.

Siobhan

Yes, Fredrick has known Szilvia at least a century. She has a somewhat elevated opinion of herself and other vamps. Thanks for stopping by, Karen. :)

LOL! Love his reply. But coffee can be almost as alluring as sex, so are the two really that different? :)

Siobhan
4/20/2016 06:58:39 am

Hehehe not really, I guess. They're both hot and wet, J. Rose. :D Thanks for commenting.

Great dialogue. She meal is great.

Siobhan

Thanks, Elaine. Szilvia doesn't think much of humans. :)

Wow, kidnapping, now are they going to cook her like seafood and eat her? It sounds all so casual but also scary at the same time.

Great banter. Love the "she-meal." And it sounds like no one else there thinks much of Boston.
