DELI'S TAKE OUT, Bad Boys of Beta Squad, Book 4 is now up for pre-order, but even better, it comes out this Thursday everywhere. It has a direct tie to Rimshot's Hard Target and Darwin's Evolution.
In this snippet, we start in Deli's POV, and they're hauling ass out of a hot zone.
“MEDIC!” Deli roared into his radio as he dragged Master Chief Petty Officer “Bones” Skelling out of the line of fire.
The man had taken several rounds to his legs before the branches from a tree behind him fell on his head. Bones lay out cold and bleeding while Deli hauled his huge ass to cover. As the smallest man on SEAL Team 9, Bravo Squad, CPO Eugene “Deli” Rubenovich had taken his share of shit from the bigger guys. Good thing he could drag his larger comrades through hell and high water.
They’d almost reached the tertiary LZ when a tango with a purloined M-16 opened fire on their retreat. Furious impacts peppered the ground behind them as Deli ran for the helo, and he swore a blue streak. Mom would be appalled. Thank glory his mother never came anywhere close to a warzone.
The two gunners in the helo opened fire on their backtrail and Deli pushed harder to get to the bird’s deck. A black shadow came out of nowhere and latched onto Bones’ other arm as he started to slide off Deli’s shoulder. Deli damn near tucked and rolled, dumping Bones to the ground, before he recognized Petty Officer 2nd Class Eric “Padfoot” Farkas. The man earned his nickname by being so damn silent he gave Ghost a run for her money. That, and he liked to read Harry Potter.
They nodded to each other and dragged Bones the last steps to the helo as the rest of the team came streaming in.
“All boots on board, captain! Let’s haul ass.” Retro’s voice came across the coms.
When things get dicey, it's good to have your team. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, Kathy Griffith Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel.
Here's the blurb for DELI'S TAKE OUT:
CPO Eugene “Deli” Rubenovich has hit his limit. After his friend is gravely injured on a mission, Deli takes leave to clear his head. He wants the great outdoors, fresh air, hiking, and maybe a beer or two. What he gets is a 5-on-1 bar fight and cartel thugs trying to forcibly take a woman’s home. And then there’s the bear.
Caroline Atherton has a quiet life she loves as the owner of Last Chance Dog Sanctuary, where she rehabilitates dogs like Sergeant Trace to return to civilian life. When a simple shopping trip goes awry, a handsome Navy Chief winds up nursing a concussion after defending her from a pack of idiot males.
Deli’s not used to being rescued, but the beautiful woman who heals dogs makes it an experience worth repeating. She’s says she’s got no room in her life for pushy men, but the cartel gets nasty, and Caroline needs help defending her home and her dogs.
Enlisting assistance from the Ultimate Recon crew to take out the enemy is just another day for Deli, but to win Caroline’s heart? He’ll need every skill in his arsenal for that mission.
So much for taking a vacation.
