Rainbow, Snippet Sunday - What Are Your Intentions?

Welcome back to Weird, Wild, & Wicked Tales for Snippet Sunday and Rainbow Snippets. It's July, that means half the year is gone and we're headed into travel season, at least for me. Are you taking any trips this summer?

This is the last week I'll be offering snippets of STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT, Book 2 in the Triple Star Ranch series of the #CheyenneCowboys. This tale is a May-September m/m romantic suspense. Next week, I'll have something new (and a cover reveal). Henry Bright has been having a relationship with Trip, but now his boss and Trip's adult son, Tom Colton, is asking questions about it.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Colton. What can I do for you?” Henry tried to smile.

“You got a minute? I’d like to talk to you about somethin’.” Tom didn’t smile. His voice remained reserved and Henry swallowed back the unease.

“Sure. Come into the office. We can talk there.”

He led the way to the vet’s office where they could shut the door and tried not to borrow trouble. Tom could be there to discuss veterinary issues. Yeah, and I’m secretly attracted to women. He sat in the office chair and gestured to Tom to sit in the guests’ chairs across from him.

“What’s up?”

“Is it true you’re in a relationship with my father?”

Well, at least I know he doesn’t pussyfoot around. Henry took a deep breath. “Before I answer that, have you asked Trip about it yet?”

Tom nodded. “He told me.”

He let his brows lower a little. “If he told you, why are you askin’ me?”

“Because I want to know what your intentions are.”

Henry couldn’t hold in the bark of laughter. “You can’t be here askin’ me that, seriously? What is this, the 1950s when a man was expected to ask a woman’s father if he could date her? Trip is neither your son nor a woman.”

“Just answer the question.”

“You didn’t ask one. But since I value my job here, and I value the good graces of Trip’s family, I’ll let you know. I like him a lot. I respect him and you.” Henry kept his voice even despite the building anger. “I’m not seducin’ him, I’m not trickin’ him, and I’m not takin’ advantage of him. And I don’t want his money. That about clear it up?”

Henry's not backing down. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, J.D. Walker, Addison Albright, and Iris Blobel.

Also, STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT's cover is up for cover of the month on AllAuthor.com and I'd love a vote if you're willing. COVER OF THE MONTH

Here's the blurb to STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT:

Sometimes the brightest stars need to come home…

Henry Bright has a picture-perfect life as a rising star in the country rock scene—fortune, fame, and more lovers than he can shake a stick at. But something is missing. The glitz of Nashville is nothing more than glitter and tinfoil. Searching for authenticity in his life, he completes his DVM in veterinary medicine and returns to Wyoming. He takes a job as a vet at the Triple Star Ranch, hoping to find meaning and connection. He just didn’t expect to find love.

Trip Colton’s wife died over thirty years ago and he figured that was it for love. But the moment he meets Henry, he can’t get the younger man off his mind. The problem is, he’s never been attracted to a man before and the realization throws him for a loop. Dating is hard at any age, but Trip’s out of practice and wooing a man is completely different than wooing a woman.

When Henry’s former manager, Jordie, tracks him to Wyoming and begs the star to come back to the music biz, tensions damage the fragile connection between Henry and Trip. Jordie will do anything to convince Henry to return, even playing on his prejudices and hinting at Trip’s infidelity. But when the bank keeps calling with alerts on Henry’s accounts, he suspects there’s more going on with Jordie than a simple comeback music tour. Ultimately, Henry must choose where his heart lies, and who to trust, before he loses more than his chance at love.

Sounds like Tom's a little out of line. I wonder if Trip knows he's there.

Nope, Trip's got no idea what Tom's up to, but Henry can hold his own. Thanks for commenting, P.T. :)

I can see why Henry is a little miffed at Tom's questioning. It also made me chuckle that Tom thought he needed to confront Henry about his intentions. I'm sure his father is old enough to take care of himself. lol But then it just shows how much Tom cares about his father. Enjoyed the snippet.

You tell him, Henry :) Love this story, I read it in my tent last week.

Ha! Henry makes a good point, but I like Tom's directness anyway. :-)

Oh, awkward! And I can understand him being angry at being interrogated on his love life at work.

While I can't fault Tom for his protectiveness, he should have picked a better place. Henry handled it well
