I'm offering snippets of STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT, Book 2 in the Triple Star Ranch series of the #CheyenneCowboys. This tale is a May-December m/m romantic suspense. Henry Bright is a country rock star and he's just found himself at the bottom of the barrel.
Henry woke up draped with a snoring, drooling young man who smelled of sweat, patchouli, and tequila, and wondered how the fuck his life had gone so beyond his control. His mouth had the consistency of gauze and the humidity of the Mojave desert, and someone had vomited nearby. The room sat littered with bodies in various states of undress, empty alcohol bottles and SOLO cups, and cigarette butts. He didn’t even know at whose home he’d been.
Dragging himself to his feet, he was relieved to find he still wore all his clothes, even if they were stained. A headache pounded between his ears like he’d spent his evening at a club. Not terribly unlikely. The smells of unwashed humans, cum, and the various substances people used to forget the world almost overwhelmed him and he hurriedly picked his way through the bodies to the commode.
He supposed the owners of the golden-veined marble and gleaming chrome bathroom would call it a ‘water closet’ given its glorious nature. But he simply used it to piss and vomit. He felt better when he was done and used the toothpaste left on the counter to cleanse his mouth.
Fuckin’ A, son. You need to hightail outta this life. Ain’t nothin’ here anymore.
Despite his fame and fandom, Henry hadn’t spent most of the money they paid him for this contract. He hadn’t lost all his rights to his music, but couldn’t live like this anymore. He didn’t enjoy it. Nothing about it felt real. It was all flash and glitter over spun spider webs.
He stared at himself in the mirror, scrubbing his face with his hands. The man looking back at him with bloodshot hazel eyes and lank hair filled with some unknown sticky substance. His beard had been growing in for at least five days to get that length of stubble and his clothes looked like they’d endured far more than just one night’s living.
“Fuck. This here shit’s gotta stop, son.”
At least he's gettin' the message. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb to STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT:
Sometimes the brightest stars need to come home…
Henry Bright has a picture-perfect life as a rising star in the country rock scene—fortune, fame, and more lovers than he can shake a stick at. But something is missing. The glitz of Nashville is nothing more than glitter and tinfoil. Searching for authenticity in his life, he completes his DVM in veterinary medicine and returns to Wyoming. He takes a job as a vet at the Triple Star Ranch, hoping to find meaning and connection. He just didn’t expect to find love.
Trip Colton’s wife died over thirty years ago and he figured that was it for love. But the moment he meets Henry, he can’t get the younger man off his mind. The problem is, he’s never been attracted to a man before and the realization throws him for a loop. Dating is hard at any age, but Trip’s out of practice and wooing a man is completely different than wooing a woman.
When Henry’s former manager, Jordie, tracks him to Wyoming and begs the star to come back to the music biz, tensions damage the fragile connection between Henry and Trip. Jordie will do anything to convince Henry to return, even playing on his prejudices and hinting at Trip’s infidelity. But when the bank keeps calling with alerts on Henry’s accounts, he suspects there’s more going on with Jordie than a simple comeback music tour. Ultimately, Henry must choose where his heart lies, and who to trust, before he loses more than his chance at love.
This title is expected to be release in May 2017 from Three Lakes Books.
