Mid Week Tease - Thanksgiving Plans

Welcome to the Weird, the Wild, & the Wicked for Mid Week Tease hosted by Sandra Bunino.

Authors: this is a great opportunity to spotlight a few lines or even a paragraph or two from a new release or backlisted title. Readers: you get to sample some delicious snippets! We’ll do our best to tease, titillate and tantalize you into the weekend.

Next week is the US holiday of Thanksgiving and I just happen to have a Thanksgiving timed tale. I'm offering snippets of Order of the Dragon, a paranormal romance set around Thanksgiving. It's all about second chances and it's hot. In this tease, Drake MacGregor is accompanying a little boy Tom Lance to visit Dr. Aliandra Cantora. We're in Aliandra's POV and she's talking to a patient who's trying to matchmake her with her son.

“Not unless I can get you to come over for Thanksgiving Dinner. My son Patrick is home from Yale.” She smiled coyly. “He’s studying to be a doctor, you know. You would have lots in common.”

Goddess save me from match-making mamas.

“Thank you, Mrs. McGillicutty. That is a very kind invitation. But I’m on call this Thanksgiving so Dr. Keener can be with his family. I hear his daughter is coming into town.”

Mrs. McGillicutty’s burgeoning disappointment cleared into interest. “Would that be his single daughter?”

Aliandra hid her smile as she made some notes on the chart. “I don’t believe Ms. Keener is married yet.” She looked up and nodded. “Everything looks good with your health. I’ll see you at your next check up. Have a good holiday and call me if your arthritis gets bad. We’ll make sure you have enough glucosamine to see you through New Year’s.”

The old woman nodded absently and Aliandra took her leave. She suspected the crafty bird now plotted a way to get into Dr. Keener’s Thanksgiving plans. Aliandra would be on call for the holiday, but she half wished she’d had plans to use as an excuse.

Plans with a tall, distinguished gentleman of the vampiric variety.

Drake’s abrupt dismissal at the library had hurt more than she thought. She kept telling herself it didn’t matter, that they hadn’t shared anything too special in the clinic last night, but her heart kept ignoring her mind. Aliandra tightened her lips and tried to focus on the chart, writing her notes in a careful hand.
Finish the chart. Get back to work.

Aliandra dropped her pen and rubbed the muscles of her neck and shoulders, trying to massage away the memories of riding Drake’s cock. Or how he’d blown her off that morning. Snarling, she rose to her feet and stomped out to leave the chart with Sally, their greeter.

She almost ran into someone, but he caught her before she collided with him. The scents of leather and ink-soaked parchment enveloped her as strong hands held her steady. She looked up into the glorious brown gaze of Drake MacGregor and her pussy spasmed with need. She wanted to nestle her body against his and tease him into feeding from her again.

Hellwinds, I’m addicted.

“Careful, Dr. Cantora. Are you all right?”

Drake’s sexy voice set her arousal blazing like a campfire and his eyes shot to crimson as his nostrils flared with her change in scent. Aliandra took a moment to settle herself into her professional façade and smiled, but the storm of arousal brewed beneath her surface. You’re not dealing with humans here. He can smell you. Calm down.

“Yes, thank you. It was an early morning for me today.” She straightened the chart and set it on the front counter before shoving her hands into her pockets to keep from touching him again. “What can I do for you, Mr. MacGregor?”

“Actually, I brought a visitor for you.” Drake winked and stepped aside, revealing Tomarrion behind him.
“Hi, Aliandra. Is it okay to visit right now?”

Aliandra’s smile broadened with real delight. “Hello, Tom. You’re more than welcome.”

“We can wait if you need more time to see patients. We just…” Drake trailed off as Tom nudged him. “I wanted to come by and apologize for my behavior at the library earlier today.”

She raised her eyebrows.

Tom nudged him again. “Just say you’re sorry. Girls like that.”

“Thank you, Tom. I think I can take it from here,” Drake whispered, winking at Aliandra. She clenched her jaws together to keep from grinning.

LOL-ing at the matchmaking going on there! But I suspect she's interested in someone else, in any case ;)

Oh yes she is, lol. Plus, the guy from Yale is human, and she's a dragon. There's a slight difference in age ranges. ;) Thanks for commenting, Lucy.
