Today I'm offering snippets from my upcoming release The Order of the Dragon, an paranormal romance, and Book 1 in the Warbler Peninsula series. Drake MacGregor is a hungry vampire, so hungry he's hurt himself badly. And he's feeling all sorts of idiot.
Drake MacGregor cursed his clumsiness and his distracted state as he leaned back against the stacks of books in the little Three Lakes Library Archives. If he hadn’t been so distracted he would have fed yesterday or the day before, eliminating the need for any help at all. But since Kate Blackamber’s wedding, his concentration was shot to hell, and now he didn’t have the energy to heal quickly or without help.
Good excuse, but that was two months ago.
Bailey, his sweet and flirty assistant, had called the doctor on call at the Three Lakes Clinic despite his protestations. She’d insisted and now he was stuck waiting with his foot elevated while Bailey kept the people in the library occupied. Dr. Paul Keener would laugh at him and tell him to take it easy at his age, then give him a brace and send him home. It would be fine as long as Paul showed up.
Dear Goddess, please send Dr. Keener.
Drake tried to ignore the plaintiveness of his inner voice, but the thought of seeing the other doctor, the alluring, exotic female who smelled like mesquite campfires and spicy chocolate, sent his head into a spin. She’d been at Kate’s wedding, flashing her seductive smile at him as she gazed into his very soul with peacock-green eyes. His hands had itched to trail down her thick, glossy braid of black hair, holding fast to it while his mouth swooped into to plunder hers.
This is why I’m such a mess.
It had taken every bit of his considerable control to remain cordial and gracious when his mind filled with images of sinking his fangs and his cock into her warm body. Dr. Cantora del Viento electrified him like no other woman had since his dear Ilona, and he didn’t like it.
He had no business thinking about anyone in that fashion. Family ties were fine. Drake had been glad to see his nephew Fredrick MacGregor with his wife Bridget, the Avatar of the Goddess, at the wedding, but even the Avatar had been eclipsed by the erotic and exotic doctor.
“Oh, thank goodness you’re here!” Bailey’s voice reached him all the way in the Archives. “He’s in the Archives room and I think he’s broken his leg.”
Drake grimaced. He could see Paul chuckling and shaking his head, and he expected the refined man to tsk over him with a look of resigned humor. But the vision that stepped through the doors of the Archives behind Bailey stopped his heart and stole his breath.
Dear Goddess of all, she’s here.
Drake MacGregor always adhered to the adage ‘let sleeping dragons lie’, until he slept with one.
In an effort to make up for his past as Vlad the Impaler, Drake has been living a small, quiet life in Three Lakes. As the town’s archivist, his knowledge of history and his place in it weigh on him. Drake has one desire—to rectify the atrocities committed in the name of his knightly order. Too bad he can’t keep his hands, or his fangs, off the local doctor, especially when he discovers she’s an actual dragon.
Aliandra Cantora del Viento is old enough and wise enough to ignore her attraction to the handsome historian, especially when her heart suggests he might be something more than he appears. Drake stokes her fires and curls her tail, and after a hot night in her clinic, the game is on. But he avoids her and nothing she tries breaks through his reserve, despite his obvious interest. He turns her on then apologize for it, repeatedly. Not exactly the kind of relationship she’d hoped for yet she can’t walk away.
When a mysterious researcher arrives with his son, Drake becomes more edgy and irritable, and Aliandra must decide if she’s willing to fight for him. Especially since he just might be her True Mate.
