Eric says: I missed the Dr. Who reference the first time, and read it as a story of someone caught up with the compulsion to follow their new lodestar. Works both ways, and only 104 words.

Eric says: I kinda want to go to this bank, and I kinda want to never be in the same city as Mrs. Martin ever.

Eric says: A change-of-pace story dealing with heartbreak and new beginnings. A little scene, all wrapped up, but with a thousand questions.
"Do I make you nervous?"
I glance at our soon-to-be-son. "A little. My sister did a great job raising you and now it's up to use to continue that. We don't know what we're doing, but we're going to figure it out. Are you nervous?"
My sister and her husband were killed in combat overseas six months ago. My parents fostered their son while the legal system worked out if we could adopt him or not. He nods, his hands trembling.
"I miss mommy and daddy."
I kneel down, as the judge comes out. "Me, too, kiddo, me too. But I have faith in us."
The ceremony takes ten minutes. When it's over, my son takes my hand and looks up at me with my sister's green eyes.
"We're gonna be okay."
Smiling, we walk out the door. I hope he's right.
