A List of Songs in Decades

5/23/2018

This week on Wednesday Randomness, the topic was:

If each decade of your life was represented by a song, what would they be?

That really made me think. And dated me, lol. But here's what I've come up with for the time I've been here.

I've been a horse person since day two, and Michael Martin Murphy combined horses with storytelling, and I was hooked. Wildfire (1975)
I was a HUGE FAN of Australian pop rock back in the day, and Underworld really sparked my attention. Underneath the Radar (1988) hit it big in the US, and seemed to speak to my personality, especially with the idea that to get ahead, you had to be low-key. Generation X was always good at that. ;)

Honorable Mention for the 80s is Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades (1986) by Timbuk 3 which is so Real Genius. You can see that video HERE.
This is Ponderous (1991) by 2nu came out the year I graduated high school and just seemed to set the tone for heading to college. Work hard but don't take things too serious. That seemed to work out pretty well. At the end of the decade there was definitely some oddness with It's All Been Done (1998) by the Barenaked Ladies, and I've thoroughly enjoyed their music. I even went to the Stunt concert tour when it came to Denver. Totally lost my voice for a month. :D
Train has managed to run straight through my life once I figured out who they were. I'd been listening to their music longer than I actually knew the group, but Calling All Angels (2003) kinda set the tone for finishing my master's thesis (the second project) and making it after I graduated.
There's something about Daughtry that just makes my Muse sit up and take notice. She loves their story songs and gives me plot bunnies as if they're going out of style. STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT was inspired by their song Life After You (2009), but an upcoming tale, BATTLE OF BONES, started from this song, Battleships (2013). That story should be coming later this year.

That's it for me. There were many, many more songs that spoke to me so far during my decades, but these ones made an impression. Check out the lists from the other authors, and happy listening.

It was surprisingly hard to pick a few songs out of all the music I listen to. Heck I'm just now thinking of more. Thanks for commenting, Kris. :)

It's amazing how much the old songs really stick with you. Thanks for commenting, Bronwyn. :)

Word of Advice
If you want to be a writer, don't think about writing or talk about writing; WRITE. And never give up on the stories.
