Kris says: Present tense doesn’t “fit” with historical stories. Other than that, this was engaging.
Veronica Jorden | @RevolutionaryVJ
Kris says: Engaging scene, but lacks the emotion which action tags could make clear.

Kris says: Except for the award first phrase (which I had to read twice) I loved everything else. The characterization was very well done.
Having impetuously manhandled Olga’s ratty little envoy, I needed to make amends…or die trying, not that death was really an option. About all that I had to trade on was her belief that I knew where Buddy and Holly had gone to ground.
I had nothing.
Still, Olga didn’t know that.
I got Lou Schmelling on the horn. “Need to get my affairs in order, Lou.”
“You have no affairs, Oli. Except maybe that little waitress you mentioned.”
“She went south, Lou.” I filled him in on my tour to Atlanta and back across this wide land as far as Oklahoma City.
Through the wires I could almost hear Lou shaking his head.
“Any sage advice about how to deal with Olga the Bulldog?” I asked.
“Oli, you know that spot between a rock and a hard place? “
“Yeah, Lou. I know it.”
“Well, I knew a guy who left his dreams in that spot. Later, he went back for ‘em…”
“You’re slurring your words, Lou. What’s your point?”
“Point is…I like my Chivas Regal when I’m tellin’ a client he has no future. You don’t even have a rock or a hard place Oli.”
“Thanks Lou…enjoy the evening.”
Lou was wrong, I thought. I had one rocky, hard place where I could squeeze into.
Canada also had a lot of green space. The war had sent a lot of fine young men and women north.
Maybe there was room enough for me.
I’d know tomorrow…
