Tilly says: Dan wrote a full story with a variety of emotions and a twist in 247 words, very hard to do. What ultimately made his story stand out was how he tied things up and also made me eager for the story to continue.
“I need your help,” he said. It was his gun. His eyes rarely left it, as if it held totemic power.
“I have no reason to help you,” she said. “Not after last time. Or the time before that.”
“It’s important. Bigger than our history, bigger than us.”
“Just like last time, and the time before.”
“You just want to trust me on this,” he said.
She lifted one dark eyebrow. “I love it when you tell me what I want.” Shithead.
He smirked. That arrogant little dimple of his flexed into existence. “You think I don’t know what you want?”
“I think you know when I want the same thing you do. Not the same thing. You’ve never quite figured that out.”
His smirk curdled into a moue of annoyance. He switched tactics, like she knew he would. “I’ve literally thrown down my weapon. Isn’t that enough for you to trust me?”
“Yes. I trust that you’re a manipulator. I trust you’d never hand me a loaded gun, no matter how much you needed my help. I trust you think I’m smart, but never quite as smart as you.”
She plucked the revolver from the table, leveled it at his face, and pulled the trigger. He drew in a breath as the hammer clicked home on an empty cylinder.
She smiled. “Now that we’ve established trust,” she said, “let’s get started.”
Congratulations Four Time Winner Daniel, Decadent, Silver, and Bokerah! Don't forget to claim your badges and display them with pride. You certainly earned it!
