Back in 2012 I released HER DEVOTED VAMPIRE, my first paranormal romance. I recently received my rights back to it and I'm re-vamping (lol) so I can re-release it this year. And I've already seen the mockup of the new cover! *Shiver* So sexy! In it, my vampire has a security expert to watch over his estate. The security expert is a werewolf who has a large family, and she has a pair of twin brothers. Those twin brothers got their story in SECOND CHANCE SUCCUBUS, a paranormal murder mystery tale. I'll be sharing snippets of that until Her Devoted Vampire comes out again.
So the snippet: Detective Chayse Wolffe, Nik's twin brother, is talking to his boss Maxine about the body and where he should look for the original crime scene. Chayse speaks first. Author's Note: This story also references BRONCO'S ROUGH RIDE in this scene.
“Yep. I figure the cash might go missing before it reaches the evidence locker tonight.”
“How much was there?”
“Yeah, I can see how that might be misplaced.” Maxine also had a soft spot for the disenfranchised, having been a runaway back in the day. “You know what? Why don’t you let me take care of the cash.”
“Good. Let me know how it goes with the Eve’s Paradise proprietor. She’s smart and wily, but usually pretty fair.”
“You’ve met her?” Chayse raised an eyebrow.
Maxine shook her head. “No, just her assistant. But she helped with the breakup of that underground reverse sex ring with the infamous Madame LeBeau. Lady Aislynn gave us tips on where to find the LeBeau’s underlings around the Strip.”
That had been a huge operation for the LVMPD and the undercover cop who’d brought a victim out alive. A Navy SEAL as he recalled. It was before Chayse’s time with Metro, but they were still talking about it. The cop had since retired and moved away.
“Right. I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Good. See you back at the lab when you’re done.”
“Yes, ma’am.” He watched Maxine saunter away from the corner of his eye as he took an extra picture of the dead man with his phone. Don’t worry, Mr. Johnson, we’ll find your killer and remind him that what happens in Vegas follows you everywhere. And didn’t Chayse just know it.
He shoved the unsettling thoughts away as he waved to his partner. Solving murders helped him focus on the now rather than the past, and the past was better left alone. But something in his gut warned him he might be facing it sooner than he’d hoped.
Things just don't stay in Vegas like they used to. :) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Jeff Tsuruoka, Veronica Scott, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb for SECOND CHANCE SUCCUBUS.
Everyone deserves a second chance...
As an ancient succubus, Lady Aislynn is cursed to survive off sexual energy for eternity. To live without killing, Aislynn runs the Underground, a pleasure club in Las Vegas where she safely feeds on the ample eroticism of her patrons. A murder inside her club threatens the haven she’s built, even as it brings unwanted attention—and possible salvation—in the form of two handsome brothers, both in search of the truth.
Werewolves Chayse and Nik Wolffe haven’t seen each other in five years, and the last place they expect to cross paths is a strip club. The detective and PI find their cases intertwining around the enticing Aislynn and her club. Nik may believe in Aislynn’s innocence, but Chayse knows all too well the destructive power of a succubus. He’s determined to keep himself and Nik free of her spell.
Nik’s missed sharing lovers with his brother, but Chayse seems dead-set against reconciling the past or building a future. Luckily fate, and the Goddess, may have plans for the two embattled werewolves and the succubus with love enough for them both.
