I'm offering snippets of THE VALKYRIE'S SWORD, which is available now and I'm still celebrating. My review crew say it's a good one and I'm so glad it's out. Svanhild is a fallen Valkyrie and Bart her new boss is taking her to meet Kate Blackamber, the Morukai shaman. Kate wants to know more about Svanhild and speaks first.
“I had the feeling someone would be dropping by today, but I had no idea I’d get to meet a Valkyrie.” Kate grinned as she brought a teapot full of fragrant tea and a plate of cookies into the sitting room. “My Aunt Sue told me about them, tall, beautiful, fierce women. You definitely fit the mold.”
Not hardly. Svanhild barely held back her grimace, but Kate noticed, and would’ve said something had Bart not said something.
“You know of Valkyries, Kate?” Bart raised his gaze from the cookies on the plate beside the tea. “They’re pretty nice bikes, but I’m still a Harley man, myself.”
Kate and Svanhild shot looks of surprise at the bear shifter just before he winked. “Gotcha.”
“You’re so bad, Bart.” Kate shook her head and laughed as she sat down beside him. “So, you’ll be working with this rascal. How long are you planning to stay?”
Svanhild shrugged one shoulder. “I was just passing through and my bike broke down here. I guess it depends on how long it takes me to fix it.” The answer had been accurate when she first arrived. Now it felt off.
Kate nodded. “That makes sense, I guess. Have a place that’s home to get back to?”
Not anymore. Svanhild grimaced and shook her head. “Not really. I’m kinda a roamer.”
Kate tilted her head. “Huh. I wouldn’t have guessed that. You look like someone who knows where she belongs and sticks close to home for the most part.” She shrugged. “I’ve been wrong in the past, though. Remember when I thought I was human, Bart? Surprised the hell outta me when I found out I wasn’t.”
Sometimes the Goddess knows you better than you know yourself. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb to THE VALKYRIE'S SWORD:
Svanhild isn’t looking for a new sword, even when one’s handed to her...
Svanhild Bjørnsdottir doesn’t need much—just a place to work in order to fix her Valkyrie motorcycle before moving on. As a fallen Valkyrie, she has no hope of settling down or returning to the Shield Maidens. Odin exiled her for defying him, and she’s not interested in going back, especially after arriving at the Fix-It Cave in Three Lakes, Michigan. But the last thing she’s looking for is love.
As a Blade in the fanatical Sword of God, a religious group bent on protecting humans from the Elder Races, Balder Templar is haunted by the ghost of his last target and his part in the deaths of her werewolf family. Hunting redemption and respite, his path leads him to Kate Blackamber, the Morukai shaman of Three Lakes. Kate knows who he is, what he’s done, and what he needs.
The Morukai lays a geas on both Svanhild and Balder—to help the other become part of the community. But when Balder rescues a little girl from an apartment fire and is recognized for his past, packmembers of the ghost arrive to demand retribution. In a town that abhors the Sword of God, Balder doesn’t have many defenders, but the Valkyrie may just be his saving grace.
