So the snippet: Bam-Bam is attending one of his final team meetings with Bravo Squad and there are some new members joining them. Plus there's a new guy who is briefing them on the situation, a new guy that might be getting his own tale at the end of the month. The first to speak is the CO.
“This is Senior Chief Petty Officer Cyrus Finch, on loan to us from Echo Squad to brief us on the situation in Peru. I’m going to hand him the reins as he can tell us better about the developments and what we’re likely to be facing in the coming weeks.”
The cowboy stepped forward and fixed the room with his faded blue gaze. “It’s nice to meet you, boys. I’ve been working on the Peru mess since I PCS’d here last year, and it’s getting worse. I won’t bullshit you. It wasn’t nice to begin with, but things are heating up.”
He clicked on the computer in front of him, the powerpoint presentation starting with a map. “The Tayabamba District of the eastern Andes Mountain range in Peru is known for their coffee plantations, particularly those subsidized by the Peruvian government. Recently, intel started filtering through the CIA about hostile takeovers of the coffee plantations by an unknown group of renegades fighting the government’s hold on the indigenous peoples.”
Finch changed the slide to the devastation left in the wake of an attack. Buildings burned in a village and bodies lay around in disarray. “While we normally don’t get involved with domestic strife, it showed up on our radar because certain names were mentioned in the communiqués going out from the raiders. Casita de la Sabiduria, the cartel y’all tangled with a few months back.”
Greg blinked and shot a look at Rimshot. Stanton swore.
Oh, yeah. Greg and Rimshot remember that trip. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Jeff Tsuruoka, Gem Sivad, Goran Zidar, Veronica Scott, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb for BAM-BAM'S INKED HART.
Petty Officer Greg “Bam-Bam” Killian is done with marriage, done with long term relationships, and done with the Teams. The injury sustained on his last op has destroyed his dreams of being a SEAL as much as his ex-wife demolished their marriage. Now he’s free to do anything he wants, including get drunk and be miserable.
Zamora Hart has dealt with her fair share of men, both military and civilian. When a wounded petty officer washes up in her tattoo shop, she can’t help but offer him a place to stay for the weekend. She’s been where he is and doesn’t mind paying the help forward, especially when the friendship comes with some intimate benefits. It’s only temporary.
When Zamora’s ex shows up, frightening her with talk of starting over, Greg offers to stay at her place longer to give backup and repay her generosity. He doesn’t intend to fall in love with her, he’s only defending a friend while he shifts his career from active service to BUD/S instructor. But her ex’s threats become more than just talk, and Greg must step up his efforts of protection, because that’s what friends do.
But it’s only temporary and they’re just friends-with-benefits, right?
