I'm offering snippets of STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT, Book 2 in the Triple Star Ranch series of the #CheyenneCowboys. This tale is a May-December m/m romantic suspense. It hasn't been fully edited yet so typos happen. Trip Colton owns the Triple Star Therapy Ranch with his son Tom and he helps work on trust issues with both people and horses. Byron is his veterinarian and long-time friend.
“Mr. Colton! Come quick.” One of the ranch hands waved at him from the open barn doors.
“Just keep doin’ what you’re doin’, Mr. Carrick. Angela will keep an eye on you and help you from here. I’ll be in the barn if you need me.” Trip nodded to the other PTSD ranch staff member as he trotted off to see what had happened.
“What’s goin’ on?” His gut tightened with the thought of one of the horses being hurt.
“It’s Byron. He fell and says his leg won’t work.” The young man wore his poker face and Trip had to wonder if it was worse than he thought. “He was in workin’ on old Mags when she shifted and now he’s down.”
Old Mags was known as Magnificent Feather, but most of the hands called her Malignant Tumor or just Mags with a scowl. The horse was a damn good herdmaster when out in the fields, but she could be a bitch in close quarters. And she hated her vet checkups.
Trip pushed his body a little faster and ignored the creak in his hips. Damn, this gettin’ old shit ain’t for wimps. He nodded to the other hands as he reached the stall with old Mags. Byron sat against the wall with a tight grimace on his face while the mare snorted at him with her ears flat against her skull.
Trip had been around enough rodeo horses to know when they were at the edge of their tolerance, and Mags had reached that point. The problem would be distracting her enough to get Byron safely out of the stall and he didn’t look like he could move too quickly.
Time for some quick thinking, for sure. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb to STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT:
Sometimes the brightest stars need to come home…
Henry Bright has a picture-perfect life as a rising star in the country rock scene—fortune, fame, and more lovers than he can shake a stick at. But something is missing. The glitz of Nashville is nothing more than glitter and tinfoil. Searching for authenticity in his life, he completes his DVM in veterinary medicine and returns to Wyoming. He takes a job as a vet at the Triple Star Ranch, hoping to find meaning and connection. He just didn’t expect to find love.
Trip Colton’s wife died over thirty years ago and he figured that was it for love. But the moment he meets Henry, he can’t get the younger man off his mind. The problem is, he’s never been attracted to a man before and the realization throws him for a loop. Dating is hard at any age, but Trip’s out of practice and wooing a man is completely different than wooing a woman.
When Henry’s former manager, Jordie, tracks him to Wyoming and begs the star to come back to the music biz, tensions damage the fragile connection between Henry and Trip. Jordie will do anything to convince Henry to return, even playing on his prejudices and hinting at Trip’s infidelity. But when the bank keeps calling with alerts on Henry’s accounts, he suspects there’s more going on with Jordie than a simple comeback music tour. Ultimately, Henry must choose where his heart lies, and who to trust, before he loses more than his chance at love.
This title is expected to be release in May 2017 from Three Lakes Books.
