This is the last weekend I'm offering snippets from CHRISTMAS I.C.E. MAGIC, the novella associated with the Cloudburst, Colorado series. It's a paranormal holiday romance and it's re-release is available now. Next week we'll be on to something new. Zach Snow has rescued Lily and now is showing her his true self.
He’d never shown a human his true form and to do so now constituted a huge risk. But he wanted Lily to believe and find joy again. And he figured he didn’t really have much to lose. Either she wouldn’t be impressed and she’d probably kill herself elsewhere later, or she’d be very impressed, but no one would believe her wild stories about a guy with crystal hair.
There’s a third option, you know. Yeah, she could actually believe him and not freak out. Ha!
“Okay, no matter what happens, don’t run out the door until I’ve had a chance to explain.”
Lily raised an eyebrow, but nodded.
Zach exhaled and let the energy of his people flow back into full bloom. His human disguise dampened it, though any other supernatural creature would recognize him. A harmonic hum filled his ears and he closed his eyes as the ice crystals grew along his shoulders, over his chest and belly, and jaw. The air around him became superheated and he pulled his sweater over his head before he glanced at Lily.
She gasped and stumbled back, her knees catching on the chair he’d put there for that reason. Zach reached out to steady her, but she yelped and scrambled for the bed, her eyes wide.
“Oh my God.” Lily curled into a ball and all the color drained from her face again. “You’re all white again with those blue shadows. What the hell are you?”
He put up both hands in a placating gesture. “Easy, Lily, calm down. You said you wanted to see the magic and I’m showing it to you.”
And that's a wrap! ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb:
For Lily Sinclair, Christmas means sorrow and loss since the death of her twin brother. When her friends want to celebrate at the Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier, Lily figures she’ll take the chance to see her brother one more time before ending her life.
As an Ice Demon, Zachary Snow is used to rescuing people in winter, but he’d never rescued anyone like Lily. She fights his efforts, claiming the magic has left the world and she has no more adventures left. But to Zach, she embodies everything magical and more.
Zach must convince Lily the magic she wants is in life itself.
This title was previously published in the Happy Holidays from the Crescent Moon Lodge anthology. It has been re-edited.
