I'm offering snippets of THE VALKYRIE'S SWORD, which is available now! Woohoo! This has been such a tough tale to write. But my review crew say it's a good one and I'm so glad it's out. Svanhild is a fallen Valkyrie and she made it into town. She's met the local mechanic at the service station and he's just offered her a job.
“Great.” He flashed her a wide smile and held out his hand. “The name’s Bart Fisher. Welcome to the Fix-It Cave.”
She grasped his forearm above his wrist and stood silent a moment as shifter energy wafted over and through her. The image of a powerful bear filled the space around him for a few seconds before dissipating as if he’d pulled it back into his core. She grinned. The bear had always been her spirit animal, her guide and totem, to use the vernacular of the First Peoples in this part of the world. And here Ursus stood again, to help and guide her.
“Honored to meet and work with you, Bart Fisher. I’m Svanhild Bjørnsdottir.” She inclined her head out of respect. “Thank you for this opportunity. Could you direct me to a place to stay? I haven’t actually seen the town yet and I’m not familiar with this part of the state.”
Bart tilted his head and narrowed his eyes as if assessing her worth. She held her breath, wondering if she’d have to fight him after all.
“I got this old cabin. It ain’t much, just a great room, a bath and a couple of bedrooms, but it’s well insulated with a good fireplace, quiet, and halfway between here and town.” He shrugged. “It’ll need some cleaning and airing out, but if you’re interested you could stay there.”
She shot a look back out the windows of the garage to the cascading rain and nodded. “That sounds agreeable. How much is rent?”
Always trust your totem. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Charley Descoteaux, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Gem Sivad, Jessica Subject, and Iris Blobel. Here's the blurb to THE VALKYRIE'S SWORD:
Svanhild isn’t looking for a new sword, even when one’s handed to her...
Svanhild Bjørnsdottir doesn’t need much—just a place to work in order to fix her Valkyrie motorcycle before moving on. As a fallen Valkyrie, she has no hope of settling down or returning to the Shield Maidens. Odin exiled her for defying him, and she’s not interested in going back, especially after arriving at the Fix-It Cave in Three Lakes, Michigan. But the last thing she’s looking for is love.
As a Blade in the fanatical Sword of God, a religious group bent on protecting humans from the Elder Races, Balder Templar is haunted by the ghost of his last target and his part in the deaths of her werewolf family. Hunting redemption and respite, his path leads him to Kate Blackamber, the Morukai shaman of Three Lakes. Kate knows who he is, what he’s done, and what he needs.
The Morukai lays a geas on both Svanhild and Balder—to help the other become part of the community. But when Balder rescues a little girl from an apartment fire and is recognized for his past, packmembers of the ghost arrive to demand retribution. In a town that abhors the Sword of God, Balder doesn’t have many defenders, but the Valkyrie may just be his saving grace.
